Play-by-Play/ Public Address

My work in play-by-play broadcasting and public address announcing has fostered personal growth in my public speaking while also allowing me to serve as a voice within my community.

A passion for broadcast journalism led 14-year-old me down the street to our local cable access television station, Franklin TV. After spending time in their in-town studio while meeting on-air talent, show producers, and directors, it was clear that I could be helpful to the station working on their telecasts of Franklin High School varsity athletics.

I hit the ground running for the 2018-2019 Spring athletic season. At first, it was a mess. I was fortunate enough to shadow and learn from experienced commentators at Franklin TV, but over the first two months of calling games, I felt like I couldn’t keep up! Whether working on a baseball, lacrosse, or tennis telecast, the action moved way too fast for me to comment on with insightfulness.

But I didn’t give up. I grew even more passionate about the process of producing a quality telecast. From the game preparation to the final production, I worked and planned for games. I eventually became more comfortable on-air while adding commentary that controlled the gameplay for my audience as opposed to the game controlling me.

Presently, I’m proud to have five years of experience with Franklin TV and over 200+ telecasts of 16 different Division One high school varsity sports. This has allowed me to build the foundation for my career in broadcast journalism. These experiences have taught me the value of versatility and honing a craft through repetition. Additionally, my work commentating alongside a veteran team has built up my collaboration skills.
