Pantherbook

As a staff member, and now one of the editors of Pantherbook,

Franklin High School’s student-run digital news outlet, I have had the opportunity to write about events, relationships, and stories deeply personal to my community. As an editor, I have worked with and trained all Pantherbook staff members. This responsibility has made me meticulous in my writing, developing an “attention to detail” mindset that has transformed me as a high school student, public speaker, and general communicator. I have also gained an increased appreciation for and realized the importance of highlighting extraordinary people in our society.

One of my most impactful pieces has been “The Tyler Morrill Story.” I was able to highlight an underrepresented aspect of my school’s community by articulating Tyler's remarkable, gold medal-winning story. Showcasing Franklin High’s diversity not typically seen in our publication allowed me to grow as a writer and is the reason why, I believe, the article was awarded “Best of SNO” by SNO Sites for Excellence in Writing. Additionally, the article was published in this February's issue of the Franklin Town News.

Writing for Pantherbook has also allowed me to bring recognition to the successes of my classmates. Like Tyler Morrill, Franklin High senior Trey Lovell accomplished something incredible. Last November, as the senior captain of the Panthers’ Boys’ soccer team, Lovell was the team’s hero as his playoff goal in overtime advanced Franklin to the tournament’s next round. In writing the attached article, I was able to vividly set the scene of Lovell’s impactful shot while also creating a visual of the moment for the Franklin High community.

FHS boys soccer senior captain Trey Lovell was tired.

“We were definitely exhausted,” Lovell said. ” I was cramping up, but we were all able to put those feelings aside for a second; we worked hard the whole game.”

The regular season has come and gone for Franklin Field Hockey. Following an 11-0 shutout of Milford last week, the Panthers completed their regular season with an impressive 16-1-1 record.
