Marketing and Audience Engagement

Publications are always facing competition for eyeballs. With so much need for attention-grabbing stories, it has become more important than ever for publications to grow and retain their audience by marketing their work as reliable and engaging.

As an editor at Pantherbook, my team and I have utilized various tools to engage and retain our audience. This include designing interactive, fun polls within our online publication for the 2022-2023 school year. This has kept our audience engaged while also providing the publication with much-needed feedback. One such poll, shown here, helped us understand what content readers were looking for when they came to the site.

Additionally, Pantherbook used this school year to launch a new, quick news update initiative. Pre-COVID, Franklin High would have a five-minute news show at the beginning of each school day.  Once back in-person, I helped engage Pantherbook’s audience as the club launched the “Today @ FHS” program. These daily slides gave my peers accurate and relevant information on what was happening in clubs, sports, lunch, and more during that given day. Attached is an example of a slide recently used.

Behind the scenes, my team and I have utilized valuable analytics to research and forecast trends within our Pantherbook audience. Each academic year seems to bring changes in readers' content preferences. Pantherbook leadership analyzes data daily on which published stories garner the most attention to make sure we are giving the readers what they want. This information also drives our publication's marketing. Through this analysis, Pantherbook has been able to reach more viewers and also increase the publication’s reputation.
